Florida moving checklist
2 weeks before
- ☐Book the movers or the truck
- ☐File your change of address with USPS (usps.com/move)
- ☐Set up power (FPL), water and gas for move-in day
- ☐Order internet/cable (schedule the install early)
Moving day
- ☐Change the locks and the codes
- ☐Test the smoke and carbon monoxide detectors
- ☐Find the water shut-off valve and the electrical panel
- ☐Photograph the condition of the house (for your records)
First weeks — Florida
- ☐File the Homestead Exemption if this is your primary residence (it lowers your tax — deadline March 1)
- ☐Update your driver's license and vehicle registration at the FL DMV
- ☐Register to vote at your new address
- ☐Put together a hurricane kit (water, flashlights, radio, documents)
- ☐Review your policy (wind/flood) — in Florida those are usually separate
